Getting Started Guide

If you are new to project management or need a refresher, this quick start guide will walk you through the four stages of project management. Click through the stages below or download a printable version of the complete guide.

Initiate- Stage 1

Assess whether this is a Major Application as per SAP  29.01.99.M1.21.

Assess risk and complexity using the Initial Risk and Complexity Assessment

Complete a Charter if necessary (it is good practice to always have a Charter).

Seek approval from your Sponsor.

Plan - Stage 2

Note the recommended Project Risk Score (up to 300) and Project Category value (A, B, C, or D) from the Initial Risk and Complexity Assessment to select the proper sized Project Plan.

Refine the details from the Project Charter and develop granular requirements needed for project completion. You may need additional templates focusing on Quality or Risk.

Execute/Monitor & Control - Stage 3

Execute the project with continuous monitoring and control.

Template: Project Activity Log and other templates as appropriate

Close - Stage 4

Formally close the project.

Improve the performance of your next project by debriefing on the current project.
